Launton’s Really Royal Scarecrow Trail

Our theme is “all things royal” in recognition of the Queen’s platinum jubilee! We do hope you will feel able to enter and the idea is that anything with a royal connection is fine! Your scarecrow could be a King or Queen, or a Prince or Princess, or even a corgi, or a raven from the Tower of London, or something military like a guardsman or trooping the colour! There is no set size or dimensions but just consider whether it can be clearly seen from the public path.

If creating a scarecrow is a bit of a stretch we’d still love you to join in and a ‘really royal’ display would be just great!

In a change to last year we will not be voting for our favourite scarecrow. We would like to encourage you to post a compliments slip for a scarecrow you’ve liked in a box located at St Mary’s church. Compliment slips will be downloadable from the website and in the Launton Lines. All compliments slips will be delivered after the event.

How to take part

The closing date for entries will be 7th May and the entry form will be in the April and May editions of Launton Lines, along with more information.

If you have entered a scarecrow, it needs to be ready by 12pm on Saturday 28th May and displayed until 12pm on 12th June 2022.

If you want to walk the trail, please make a donation on our JustGiving page which will open in May. All money raised will go towards St Mary’s Church.

A trail map will be available in due course.

Please respect people’s properties and do not enter gardens or touch the scarecrows. Please follow the latest government guidance – maintain social distancing and respect rules on households meeting or mingling.

Preparing Your Scarecrow

Please let your imagination and creativity take over and have a go at making a scarecrow or display using any safe materials you have at home. You don’t have to have straw in it but it’s ok if you do have some at home. Your scarecrow can be of any size and shape and just needs to be seen outside of your own property at 12pm on May 28th until 12pm on June 12th.

Photos of the scarecrows will be available here after the event!

We look forward to seeing all the artistic and creative talent in Launton on display!

Past Scarecrow Trails

Launton Scarecrow Trail “Celebrating Heroes”

Saturday 10th – Sunday 18th October 2020

At St Mary’s we have been wondering what we could do to mark the autumn season as a harvest lunch is not possible this year.

So we are organising a Scarecrow Trail from Saturday 10th October until Sunday 18th 2020. Planning has been done around government guidelines and we hope the scarecrows will put smiles on people’s faces as they walk around the village.

Our theme is “Heroes” in recognition of all the key workers who continue to support us but it could also be a hero from a book, a film or just a hero to you!

Photos of all the scarecrows are here. We’re delighted with the support we’ve kindly had from local businesses, who have donated prizes. These are: Sun Wah, Blue Texel, S&H Coffee Shop, Stone Lily.
